First, you will need to reach out to me either by contact form, phone, or email. I will gather some basic information to see if our availability matches. Then I will send you paperwork to complete through the client portal. Once you complete your paperwork, I will be able to run your insurance benefits to let you know how much your co-pay will be if you are using insurance.
Here are the three ways to contact me to schedule an appointment:

The length of therapy will differ from client to client. My average number of sessions per client is 12, but that number varies greatly. Some factors that determine the length of therapy are:
diagnosis
treatment goals
personal preference (some clients want brief therapy, whereas some clients want long-term therapy)
how intentionally the client's practice the skills learned in therapy at home
financial limitations or resources
I cannot guarantee a client will achieve his or her therapy goals within a certain number of sessions, but if you schedule a free consult I'd be happy to give you an estimate regarding how long I believe your treatment may last.
In your first session, we will review your paperwork and the informed consent agreement. We will discuss what is bringing you in to therapy, and I will ask many contextual questions in order to get to know you better. By the end of the first session, we will identify your goals for therapy. It's important for us to be on the same page regarding what you hope to get out of treatment. It's normal for clients to be nervous about starting therapy. I try to follow the lead of the client regarding how much personal information we discuss in the first session. For example, children and teenagers will have a much harder time opening up in the beginning, whereas adults feel more "ready" to share.
In a typical therapy session, we will begin by reviewing any "homework" I assigned. We will continue making progress towards treatment goals primarily by either 1) processing past trauma or hurt, 2) learning a new skill that you can apply, or 3) discussing and working through "stuck points" or barriers. Oftentimes, the bulk of session feels like "just talking," with the occasional art or experiential exercise, but this "talking" is essential learning and changing ways of thinking, feeling, and being.
If you are paying out of pocket, your first session will be $130 and each subsequent session will be $115. If you are using insurance, you may have a co-pay. I will run your benefits and let you know what your co-pay will be per session. Some insurances do not cover some services. For example, some insurances do not pay for couples therapy.
Yes! I see clients in-person and virtually, whatever the client prefers.
I see children ages 6 and up! I will likely ask you as the parent/caregiver to be involved in either a few, several, or all sessions.
I am currently able to accept UnitedHealth, Health Choice, CHAMPVA, and Alliance Coal. I will run your benefits before our first session in order to let you know exactly what your insurance will cover and what your copay will be. Some insurances don't cover all services, but in general your insurance should cover individual therapy for yourself or your child.
EMDR stands for eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing. It is a type of therapy, originally developed to treat trauma, that uses bi-lateral stimulation in order to help clients become desensitized to past negative events (or future feared outcomes) and allows them to reprocess the event so that it is no longer as emotionally distressing. I am trained in EMDR and now utilize it to treat not only PTSD but also depression and anxiety.
