For families who are struggling with children who seem defiant, angry, or anxious, depressed, or OCD, I offer family therapy. Typically family therapy will be a combination of individual sessions with the child, sessions with just the parents, and sessions with the whole family.
The stress of having a child with mental health issues is significant and I want to help you navigate those issues. This will require working with your child to identify and change his/her negative thought and behavior patterns. But it will also require understanding how you can make changes at home to stop the negative cycles (parenting education).
Many times, parents who have a hard time parenting are still struggling with their own insecurities or negative beliefs that developed when they were a child.
I also offer therapy services for parents of foster children and parents of adoptive children who want to help their children deal with trauma, and also develop a loving attachment with their children.
Family therapy will examine all of these components in order to identify a treatment plan for achieving the goals you have for your family. Ultimately my goal is for you to have strong values displayed in your home, including peace, honesty, and respect.
Are you a parent who wants to regain a relationship with your adult child? Or perhaps learn to set boundaries with them? Maybe your an adult child who wants to regain a relationship with your parent, but you also need to work through past hurts and learn how to set healthy boundaries moving forward.
Maybe you are a couple who needs help navigating the relationship with your in-laws.
Family therapy can help with that! As a non-biased third-party, I can present information regarding how most healthy families function, and then help you apply that information to your family in a way that fits.
Most people feel they either have to remain enmeshed with their family members, or cut them off. But there is a better way. The better way isn't easy at first, but it usually is worth it, if everyone is on board. Contact me today with questions or if you are ready to schedule an appointment.
